Data to Evaluate Schools
School Type: There are two types of public schools: charter and district. District schools are governed by a locally elected school board, while charter schools are governed by an independent board of directors. Charters are granted by state-approved charter school authorizers, such as the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools.
Number of Students: Enrollment information is based on the October 1, 2015 student count reported to the Arizona Department of Education. It is the school’s average daily membership.
Congressional and Legislative District: Congressional and Legislative Districts are based on 2013 boundary lines.
Grades Served: Grade levels served are based on 2014-15 school year data as reported to the Arizona Department of Education.
A-F Letter Grades: The Arizona Department of Education issues letter grades for all public schools. There are three types of letter grades: traditional (A-F); alternative school grades are designated by an –ALT (i.e., A-ALT) and online school grades are designated by a –DL (i.e., A-DL). Accountability results are based on the Arizona Department of Education’s Accountability System for the 2013-14 school year, the most recent year available. Schools opened after the 2013-14 school year are designated NYR due to the lack of available data.
